Camping holiday: from what age can you travel with children?
In principle you can take your child camping at any age, provided the drives in the van or car are not too long and there is enough time for rest and relaxation. That said, you should have a little experience and the right camping mindset if you want to go camping with a newborn straight away.
Wouldn't it be nice to combine parental leave in a camper and discover the country and its people at the same time?
Always remember: when you as parents feel comfortable and safe, your child will be relaxed too, no matter how old it is. In the end, the shared time as a family, moving around in nature, micro-adventures and making memories is incredibly precious.
Camping with toddlers: the 3 most important questions answered briefly
1. What do you need to consider when travelling in a motorhome or camper with a toddler?
Depending on the vehicle and the child's age, different safety regulations apply. In a motorhome, children under 12 or under 150 cm tall must sit in an appropriate child seat. The relevant seatbelt (three-point or two-point) must be approved for fitting the child seat.
2. Where does the child sleep during the holiday?
Think before your camping trip about where your child will sleep. A cot probably won't fit in the car, tent or camper. If your child is to sleep in the upper area of a motorhome, you will of course need a bed guard. You should also not leave the window open at night if there is a risk that your child might be in a draught.
3. What should you bear in mind for food and drink?
For younger children in particular, drinking water from sanitary facilities or fresh water stations should be boiled. You can store baby food in the freezer compartment of the motorhome or buy it locally in many supermarkets. A kettle or pot works well for boiling or sterilising a feeding bottle.

Camping with kids: what must not be missing from the luggage?
Preparation and planning are key on a camping holiday. That said, you can of course also buy the most important things (clothes or food) locally.
The following things should not be missing when camping with small children:
- Clothing for every temperature
- Nappies, if needed
- Bottle warmer
- Kettle for gas stoves
- Children's camping crockery
- Art supplies and books
- LED night light with solar panel
- Beach shelter
- Sunscreen with SPF 50
- Anti-Brum Naturell
- Lanyards or key straps for attaching toys to the child seat
- Favourite cuddly toy or toy (don't forget this!)
As you can see, a camping trip with children is generally very manageable and often offers better conditions than a flight or hotel holiday.
