About the site
Hello, we are a German-Italian couple, Ute (ex-fashion and costume designer, now hiking tour guide in Apulia) and Mario (ex-music producer, now photographer and passionate donkey owner) and we run our organic farm and donkey farm 'Giardini di Marzo' with our eight donkeys Luna, Micky, Janni, Nino, Max, Frederick, Nerina and Isabella and our five dogs Lilly, Fuchur, Roby, Ambra and Giada. Our organic farm 'Giardini di Marzo' is located in the middle of extensive olive, fig and almond groves between the foothills of the Valle d'Itria (Valley of the Trulli) and the Salento (boot heel). The strategically favorable location in the immediate vicinity of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas (approx. 35 minutes drive) offers an ideal starting point for the most famous sights in Apulia (e.g. Lecce, Otranto, Gallipoli, Ostuni, Alberobello or Matera), but also for hikes on foot, by bike or with a real donkey. Thanks to the mild climate, Apulia is also attractive outside of the high season. Be it in autumn during the olive harvest, at Christmas time with the folkloristic living nativity scenes in rock caves or at Easter with the traditional processions, "I Misteri" in Taranto or "I Pappamusci" in Francavilla Fontana (both right near us!). If you don't feel like doing all that, you can relax undisturbed on our large property in a deck chair or hammock between olive, fig and beguilingly fragrant lemon trees or talk to one of our 8 curious donkeys about the meaning of life. After all, it's vacation...😉 The organic farm 'Giardini di Marzo' offers 4 shady pitches for mobile homes (max. 7.5 m), caravans, campervans or tents in an authentic and natural environment. Each pitch has its own small garden area for a table and chairs, as well as its own electricity connection (included in the basic price) and access to a communal water connection (for an additional charge). Not far from the pitches, guests have access to two bathrooms (one with a sink, toilet and shower and one with just a sink and toilet), as well as an outdoor shower (for an additional charge). In our farm shop you can buy our organic olive oils ORO MESSAPICO, including the multi-award-winning EVOLUTION, but also other of our own products such as prickly pear elixir, a juice made from prickly pear fruits, various jams and liqueurs made from our citrus fruits, vegetables marinated in olive oil, pâtés and olives, tomato sauce, herbal tea blends from the garden, our own balsamic vinegar made from sour cherries, seasonal vegetables from the vegetable garden and other products from friendly organic farms such as pasta, wine, cheese and baked goods. On request, you can have breakfast or dinner with us and, if you wish, we can have pizza from the wood-fired oven. All year round, we offer our guests tours of the garden, professional olive oil and wine tastings with the producers, as well as Apulian cooking courses. We also organize donkey trekking or individual day trips and hikes with a guide. Guests can rent bicycles for excursions in the surrounding area (for an additional charge).

Treat the animals on the farm and the natural environment with respect. Use water sparingly, as Apulia is one of the driest regions in Italy.
Additional offers
Slow Food Cooking Class
In an Apulian slow food cooking course, you will learn how to make homemade pasta yourself. We prepare our pasta dough from the ancient durum wheat flour variety "Senatore Capelli" and then shape the typical Apulian pasta on the dough board, such as orecchiette, strascinati or cavatelli. In the past, this was a requirement for every young girl willing to get married! At the same time, we prepare a dough mass from dry bread, herbs and cheese, which is then formed into small balls and fried in olive oil. These so-called polpette are a delicious starter or cooked in tomato sauce, a side dish to the pasta. For dessert, there is the classic ricotta cake with a shortcrust pastry made from olive oil. The shared meal and drinks are included! Duration of the cooking course including meal approx. 5 hours.
Olive oil or wine tasting
Professional tasting of three organic extra virgin olive oils or three wines with an expert, accompanied by snacks.
