About the site

Hello dear campers, Welcome to wild camping in my orchard in the UNESCO Global Geopark Ries! My orchard is one of my absolute favorite places. It was planted by my grandfather, and I am gradually renewing the trees, mostly with old fruit varieties. The orchard is located just outside *my* village in the Nördlinger Ries and is surrounded by fields. It is situated on a gentle slope. You have an unobstructed view almost all around. Approximately 100 meters away as the crow flies is a modern mill. Between them is a meadow with a grassy path. The millrace flows past my orchard at an estimated distance of 30 meters, forming a narrow river (Eger). Since the access is via a grassy, slightly descending dirt road (approx. 200m) where you have to turn at a 90-degree angle once, the access is not suitable for caravans and very large motorhomes. The pitches are exclusively for fully self-sufficient vehicles (black and grey water!). If you wish to camp, please bring your own camping toilet or folding shovel 😃😁😉 The garden is a natural wildflower meadow that is only mowed about twice a year. When the fruit (apples, pears, plums) is ripe, you are welcome to help yourself for your breakfast. I've laid down paving slabs. You can make a fire there – at your own risk and full liability – using a fire basket or fire bowl. You'll need to bring your own wood. A barbecue station (charcoal grill, barbecue cart with barbecue utensils and chimney starter) is also available. 🥩🍖 If desired, I will gladly provide 2 stable leveling ramps to compensate for the slight slope. There's also a lounge sofa (made from pallets) that you're welcome to use. Remember to bring cushions for comfortable lounging. And also a *Bavarian orchard basket* (=beach chair). 😉 By the way: Did you know that traditional orchards have been included in Germany's Intangible Cultural Heritage list by UNESCO?!?! So, just make yourself at home there... with so much UNESCO recognition 😉 LEISURE TIPS: Nördlingen boasts a beautiful, historic old town with a fully preserved, walkable city wall, five city gates, and now also the Gerd Müller Memorial ("Bomber of the Nation"). For geology and geography enthusiasts, there's the Ries Crater Museum (dedicated to the meteorite impact). Other attractions include the large St. George's Church with its Daniel statue, the approximately 90-meter-high church tower offering a fantastic panoramic view of the Nördlinger Ries, and the Bavarian Railway Museum. And now there is also the Gerd Müller memorial for the nation's bomber ⚽. https://www.noerdlingen.de/tourismus Oerdlingen-discover/ ⇒ The UNESCO Global Geopark Ries offers several hiking trails: https://www.geopark-ries.de/geopark-wege/ The Shepherd's Trail passes right by *my* village. In 2024, it was voted the most beautiful day hike in southern Germany (and the fourth most beautiful in all of Germany). https://www.outdooractive.com/de/route/wanderung/donau-ries/geopark-ries-schaeferweg/193239592/#caml=7ps,1pu72x,82p66l,0,0 The Lindle Geotope / educational trail and the Swedish Trail are only 2-3 km away. ⇒ Approximately 2 km away as the crow flies, you'll find the Offnet Caves, dating back to the Ice Age, as well as the foundations of a Roman-era estate. https://www.geopark-ries.de/geologische-besonderheit/ofnethoehlen-21902/ ⇒ Dinkelsbühl, voted the most beautiful old town in Germany, is also only about 30km away. ⇒ Harburg/Swabia is also very beautiful, with its castle perched on a rock (approx. 25 km away). It is one of the largest, oldest, and best-preserved castle complexes in southern Germany. https://www.stadt-harburg-schwaben.de/poi/schloss_harburg-364/ ⇒ And the area around Christgarten (with its wildlife park (wild boar enclosure)) in the Kartäusertal valley is also very idyllic for hiking and cycling (approx. 10 km away). https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kloster_Christgarten ⇒ You can go kayaking and canoeing on the Wörnitz River. There are approximately 6 stages from Dinkelsbühl via Oettingen to Donauwörth. https://www.faltboot.org/wiki/index.php?title=W%C3%B6rnitz ⇒ Since the Ries region is generally very flat, it is well suited for cycling. There is a wide selection of cycle paths. SHOP LOCALLY: In the village there is a mill shop (e.g. flour, pasta, oils, vinegar, muesli, dried fruit, honey and jams, eggs, tea, spices, snacks, sweets, etc.), a butcher shop (local sausage and meat) and a farm shop (depending on the daily selection, e.g. regional meat (lamb, game, poultry), wood-fired bread, eggs, liqueur, honey, spreads, cheese, etc.). In Nördlingen there are various supermarket chains, weekly markets, several butcher shops and bakeries, etc. The Goldenes Lamm (Vierkorn) inn is regularly open on Fridays (and also irregularly on other days). You can bring your own food and buy your drinks there (just like in Bavarian beer gardens). I hope you have a great time camping! 😎🏕️🚙 *** Any liability on my part for personal injury and property damage, e.g., if you twist your ankle on the grass or a branch falls from a tree onto your vehicle or tent during a storm or thunderstorm, is hereby excluded. ... So far, nothing like this has happened, and hopefully it will stay that way! ***

Regarding "expectation management": - Please do not cause any damage to the neighboring fields and my fruit trees. - Please do not leave any rubbish behind. Sorry, it sounds stupid, but I don't want to be a camper like that. *** Any kind of liability on my part for personal injury and property damage, e.g. if you twist your foot on the lawn or a branch falls from a tree onto your vehicle or tent during a storm or thunderstorm, is hereby excluded. ... So far nothing like that has happened and hopefully it will stay that way. *** *** If you light a fire (e.g. in a fire bowl or fire basket), you do so at your own risk and assume full liability. ***
