Our favorite spot is located on the enchanted grounds of the old paper mill in Neu Kaliss. Located directly on the Elde River, a tributary of the Elbe, you can stroll through this charming lost place, visit the historical exhibition, kayak towards the old mill or into the nature reserve in Dömitz. You can also go fishing, or cycle along the Elbe Cycle Path. If you're expecting pitches or a traditional campsite feel, you won't find it here. But you'll find industrial heritage, lost place charm, and wild nature all the more! This is a unique, natural place to spend a few relaxing days away from the big city. The old brick buildings are home to falcons, storks, and kites; deer can be found in the fields, and in the morning you'll be woken by sheep or free-range chickens. The island's sunset terrace, with its porch swing and comfortable garden furniture, invites you to linger, and in the evenings, there's often a fire or a spontaneous movie on the big screen. The grounds include the office building, where various creative projects are currently being developed and an exhibition on the history of the factory. You are also welcome to explore the outdoor area of the old paper mill with all its enchanted corners and let your gaze wander over the fields at sunset.
